Hi there and welcome to We’re Funny That Way Productions – or WFTWP as we like to call it around the virtual office!

Piloted by Katie Ford and Maggie Cassella, We’re Funny That Way Productions is the productions side of WereFunnyThatWay.com, an entertainment platform that gives back. Twenty-five to one hundred percent of our profits go to the Rainbow Charity Network (formerly the We’re Funny That Way Foundation), a charitable foundation which makes transformational donations to grass routes organisations supporting the queer community across Canada.

Katie has written favourites that audiences have loved (Miss Congenitally, High Dessert, Family Ties, and the GLAAD Award winning Prayers for Bobby). Maggie is a successful stand-up and talk show host, and creator of the We’re Funny That Way Festival which over the years has raised close to half a million dollars for the foundation.

Thanks to our audiences, sponsors, and donors, We’re Funny That Way has entertained and given back for since 1997.

Maggie and Katie are partners bringing a new platform version of the über successful We’re Funny That Way to the digital world.

Exciting right? Audiences are entertained AND giving back leaving them FUNfilled!

Our motto is simple: Do Good.  Do Good Business.

The Centre and the CBC We’re Funny That Way Pride Special

The Centre is a fundraising project conceived and produced by us in an effort to change the face of fundraising!

So, remember Covid lock down? Right thaaaaat. Well, lockdown affected a lot of entities a lot of different ways. In the fundraising world, pivoting happened quickly. Hello, online virtual galas!

In our queer world, We’re Funny That Way sold it’s virtual gala as a CBC special which was nominated for four Canadian Screen Awards – Best Performing Arts Special (WINNER), Best Writing Variety or Sketch Comedy, Best Performance Ensemble or Sketch Comedy, and Best Host.

We were honoured, floored, and over the moon. BUT, while it met our goal to shed light on queer talent, it was not a fundraiser. That part made us sad.

Fearing the unknown for 2022/3, and worried peeps were growing weary of the online performing arts specials – a light bulb went off. What if we created a special that showed like a sitcom but still highlighted queer performing artists and used it as a virtual “gala” to raise money for our foundation?

And just like that, The Centre was born. You watch it. See great talent. The money you donate goes DIRECTLY into the Foundation bank account. It’s tax deductible. Good gets done with your dough!

We were honoured to be nominated for Best International Comedy at the Atlanta Women’s Comedy Film Festival as well as winning a Jury Award and an Award of Merit at two other international festivals.
